International Organisations

Australian Biosecurity CRC for Emerging Infectious Disese

We are a national organisation developing new capabilities to detect, assess and respond to emerging infectious disease threats of animals and humans that impact on national and regional biosecurity. We aim to equip disease managers and members of the community across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region with the knowledge and skills for responding to emerging infectious diseases.

Australian Invasive Animals CRC

The Invasive Animals CRC creates new technologies and integrated strategies to reduce the impact of invasive animals on Australia’s economy, environment, and people. We concentrate on developing smarter tools to prevent and detect new invasions, advanced and tactical tools to strengthen integrated management strategies of carp and other pest fish, and new tools and integrated management strategies for major pests including foxes, wild dogs, feral pigs, rats and mice, cane toads, feral cats and rabbits.

Cooperative Research Centre for National Plant Biosecurity Australia

We aim to provide leadership in the development, execution and delivery of plant biosecurity research to:

  • safeguard Australia's plant industries
  • ensure food security for Australian consumers, and
  • improve market access for agricultural exporters.

IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature - ISSG, Invasive Species Specialist Group

ISSG aims to reduce threats to natural ecosystems and the native species they contain by increasing awareness of invasive alien species, and of ways to prevent, control or eradicate them.

Pacific Invasives Inititative and Co-operative Islands Initiative

The Cooperative Initiative on Invasive Alien Species on Islands ("The Cooperative Islands Initiative" or CII) is a global initiative that was launched in 2002 following calls from island countries and countries with islands for more efforts to manage invasive species. CII aims to facilitate cooperation and enhance capacity to prevent and manage invasive species on islands.

In 2004 the first regional programme of CII, the Pacific Invasive Initiative (PII), was established in response to calls from the region for assistance with capacity development for invasive species management.
